About the Journal

Journal of Decentralized Systems (JDS) is a peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access publication dedicated to the technical and social architectures of distributed agency. Published by Hyphero, a California Benefit Corporation, JDS serves as a high-integrity venue for research into systems that prioritize user sovereignty, interoperability, and open-source infrastructure.

In an era of increasing centralization and extractive publishing fees, JDS offers a sanctuary for rigorous scholarship without Author Processing Charges (APCs). We invite original research, system designs, and critical reviews across the spectrum of decentralized technology—from ActivityPub and the Fediverse to OpenSimulator and sovereign identity protocols. Our mission is to bridge the gap between academic theory and the practical deployment of resilient, independent communication networks.
